Expanding Access to Fresh, Local Produce

Our Partnership with Holcomb Farm to Support Community Health

We have expanded our longstanding partnership with Holcomb Farm to increase access to fresh, nutritious produce for Wheeler patients and families across Connecticut. Each year, Holcomb Farm provides farm-fresh vegetables to all five of Wheeler’s Family Health & Wellness Centers.

This collaboration, funded through private philanthropy from the Corsini and Brantner families and community support, strengthens our Farm to Family initiative, which addresses food insecurity as a critical part of whole-person health. By bringing healthy, locally grown food directly to our health centers, we’re helping patients eat well, feel better, and build healthier lives.

Broadening the Farm to Family program

Expanding Access to Connecticut-Grown Produce for Patients

Wheeler Health received a $100,000 Connecticut Department of Agriculture grant to expand its Farm to Family program, increasing free access to fresh, locally grown produce for patients facing food insecurity. The program partners with Connecticut farms to distribute fruits and vegetables at Wheeler’s health centers and provides nutrition education to support healthy eating. With more than 100,000 pounds of produce already distributed since 2018, this expansion will strengthen food access, support local farmers, and improve patient health.
