Northwest Village School
Northwest Village is a special education therapeutic day school in Plainville, CT that provides a positive and successful learning experience for students aged 5–22 with complex social, emotional, developmental, learning and/or behavioral challenges.
The Wheeler Difference
Wheeler's comprehensive, individualized, and relationally bases programming, along with our nuturing, highly trained and committed staff, separate our services from other therapeutic day schools in Connecticut.
A positive and successful learning experience.
We offer a transdisciplinary team approach that includes a full continuum of educational, mental health, psychiatry, speech, occupational therapy, and health and wellness services in one location.
Fostering Learning and Growth
Our teachers bring an array of subjects to life in a sensory-sensitive environment that includes engaging classrooms and innovative tools for learning. Students prepare for the future using the latest technology, and they are engaged in recreational and creative activities in the school's gym and performance space.
Designed to meet students' needs
We offer a supportive academic experience that follows Connecticut's Common Core Standards. A team of highly trained teachers, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, speech and language pathologist, occupational therapists, and paraprofessionals deliver individualized programming designed to build on each student's learning style and strengths.
We offer an array of opportunities and hands-on instruction to prepare high school and transition-year students for the future; these include employment readiness training, on-site job training, and community-based jobs in local businesses. On-site pre-vocational programming for students explores career opportunities in the culinary, automotive, retail, housekeeping, maintenance, and agricultural fields.

For all the care you have given him; for all the nurturing discipline given when needed; for all the fight that you have fought for him, thank you.
I cannot begin to thank you enough for working with me to ensure stability and consistency from home to school, and from school to him. Thank you for doing all that and so very much more.
