The cornerstone of the Connecticut Center for Prevention, Wellness and Recovery, Connecticut Clearinghouse is the state’s premier library and resource center for information on substance use and mental health disorders, prevention and health promotion, treatment and recovery, wellness and related topics. Connecticut Clearinghouse is funded by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS).
We offer Mental Health First Aid™ and Youth Mental Health First Aid™ trainings for community members, including first responders, based on a Mental Health First Aid USA™ national curriculum. We also offer Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is for everyone 16 years or older—regardless of prior experience—who wants to be able to provide suicide first aid, and more.
Wheeler’s Southington Health Outreach facilitates access to behavioral and mental health care for Southington residents. The project employs a three-tiered approach to serving individuals and families in this community, including outreach and health education; system navigation assistance; and efforts to reduce barriers to care such as transportation, child care concerns and others. The Southington Health Outreach Project is funded by the Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust at the Main Street Community Foundation.
Our statewide prevention initiatives are funded by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. These programs include the Connecticut Healthy Campus Initiative, which is committed to creating and sustaining healthy campus and community environments in the state, and the Connecticut Tobacco Merchant and Community Education Initiative, which administers a comprehensive Tobacco Merchant and Community Education Initiative to reduce youth access to tobacco.
We coordinate an extensive array of behavioral health training programs for professionals within several State agencies, including: the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS); the State Judicial Branch, Court Support Services Division (CSSD); and Mobile Crisis Intervention Services – Performance Improvement Center Training.
